TORONTO, July 5 (UPI) -- Eric Hosmer drove in three runs Thursday and had a part in two big innings for Kansas City innings that boosted the Royals to a 9-6 victory over Toronto.
Kansas City finished off a split of the four-game series, scoring five times in the third and adding a three-run eighth that allowed the Royals to hold off a Toronto comeback bid. The Royals had 16 hits.
Hosmer had an RBI single in the third and scored the final run of the inning on a sacrifice fly from Mike Moustakas. Billy Butler had a two-run base hit in the frame.
A single by Hosmer accounted for two of the three runs in the eighth.
J.P. Arencibia accounted for three runs with two homers for the Blue Jays and pinch-hitter Ben Francisco had two RBI with a triple in the eighth.
Kansas City starter Luke Hochevar (6-8) earned the victory by giving up two runs on four hits in five innings. He left the game as a precaution after suffering an ankle sprain.
Henderson Alvarez (5-7) was roughed up for five runs on eight hits over 5 1/3 innings to take the loss.
