MLS: Columbus 2, Real Salt Lake 0

COLUMBUS, Ohio, July 1 (UPI) -- Tony Tchani and Eddie Gaven each tallied Saturday in the Columbus Crew's dominating 2-0 victory over Real Salt Lake.

Tchani slipped after getting a pass from Emilio Renteria but recovered to dribble past a defender and notch his second goal of the season in the 16th minute.

Chris Birchall set up Gaven in the 44th minute and the midfielder left-footed a shot that bounced off the crossbar and over the line for his fourth goal of the season as Columbus (6-5-4) improved to 4-1-3 in its last eight games.

RSL (10-6-2) managed only two shots on goal while suffering a third consecutive league defeat for the first time since July 2007.
