ARLINGTON, Texas, July 1 (UPI) -- Travis Blackley shut down Texas on one run over seven innings Sunday and the Oakland Athletics avoided a sweep with a 3-1 win over the Rangers.
Blackley (2-2) yielded seven hits but didn't issue a walk, striking out three en route to his fourth straight strong start. The Australian left-hander has held opponents to two runs or less in each of the appearances.
Grant Balfour and Jerry Blevins combined for a scoreless eighth inning and Ryan Cook corralled his seventh save for Oakland, which took the finale of a four-game road series.
Jemile Weeks scored the go-ahead run on a sixth-inning wild pitch by Texas starter Yu Darvish (10-5) and Brandon Moss hit a solo homer for Oakland.
Darvish finished by allowing three runs on five hits over seven full frames, striking out 11.
Elvis Andrus went 2-for-4 with an RBI as the American League West-leading Rangers saw their five-game winning streak snapped.
