BOSTON, June 30 (UPI) -- Veteran Kevin Garnett will be returning to the Boston Celtics next season, sources told the Boston Herald.
Garnett, 36, was reportedly in the final stages of negotiating a new contract that would keep him in Boston for two and possibly three more seasons.
"The decision came down to whether or not KG wanted to keep playing," one source told the Herald. "Once he decided that he did, it was going to be Boston. He wasn't going to leave Doc (Rivers) and those guys and play anywhere else."
Garnett has played 17 seasons in the NBA and compiled a career average of 19.3 points per game. He averaged 15.8 points per game and 8.2 rebounds in 2011-2012.
The Herald said a move to the center position last season agreed with Garnett, who showed resurgence in the playoffs and seemed to alleviate concerns about his age. "Kevin was absolutely great this season, and he just wants to keep going," a source told the newspaper. "When you look at how he was playing, there's no reason for him to stop."
