PHILADELPHIA, June 30 (UPI) -- The Baltimore Orioles acquired veteran slugger Jim Thome from the Philadelphia Phillies Saturday, the teams announced.

The Orioles sent a pair of low-minor league prospects to the Phillies in return for Thome, who is tied with Sammy Sosa for 13th on the all-time homer run list with 609.

The left-handed batter played 30 games for the Phillies in his second stint with the club, batting .242 with five homers and 15 RBI. The Orioles became his sixth organization after also playing for Cleveland, the Chicago White Sox, Minnesota and Los Angeles Dodgers.

The Orioles sent catcher Gabriel Lino and pitcher Kyle Simon to Philadelphia in the deal.
