LOS ANGELES, June 30 (UPI) -- Johan Santana fired eight shutout innings and Ike Davis slammed a three-run homer Saturday in the New York Mets' 5-0 whitewash of the Los Angeles Dodgers.
Santana (6-4) allowed only one runner as far as third base in the gem, during which he scattered three hits and worked around a pair of walks.
The Mets ace struck out three while lowering his ERA to 2.76 as New York took its third straight from the reeling Dodgers and pulled to within 2 1/2 games of National League East-leading Washington with the win.
The Mets were clinging to a 2-0 lead in the sixth inning when Davis' blast put the contest away.
Nathan Eovaldi (0-5) was touched for five runs on seven hits over 5 1/3 innings for the Dodgers, who dropped their seventh straight and 11th in 12 games overall.
Los Angeles remained one game behind first-place San Francisco in the NL West after the Giants fell to Cincinnati Saturday.
