MLS: Chicago 1, Sporting KC 0

KANSAS CITY, Kan., June 29 (UPI) -- Marco Pappa scored in the 58th minute Friday to give the Chicago Fire an unexpected 1-0 victory over Sporting Kansas City.

It was Chicago's third straight victory, but the Fire had put together only two road victories before pulling out Friday's win, and Kansas City had lost at home just once this season.

Chicago (8-5-3) moved within two points of third-place Kansas City in the Eastern Conference.

Pappa brought the ball upfield on his goal-scoring run and passed it to Chris Rolfe on the left side of the penalty area. Rolfe immediately sent it back to Pappa, who then fired a one-timer past Jimmy Nielson for his fifth goal of the season.
