WACO, Texas, June 25 (UPI) -- An ex-Baylor basketball player faces charges of trying to extort money from Heisman Trophy winner Robert Griffin III, multiple reports indicated.

Arrest affidavits submitted by the FBI allege Richard Khamir Hurd, 25, demanded money in exchange for withholding damaging information about an unnamed athlete.

KWTX-TV, Waco, Texas, and the Waco Tribune confirmed the alleged target was former Baylor quarterback Griffin, who was taken by the Washington Redskins with the second overall pick in this spring's NFL Draft.

The affidavits allege Hurd contacted a St. Louis sports agent identified only as "B.D." and demanded money to withhold the information. He was arrested by an undercover FBI agent when a check was handed over to him at a "local business," authorities say.

Hurd was arrested Friday but released from the McLennan County Jail without posting bond Monday, the media outlets reported.

Hurd played forward for the Bears as a walk-on for four years starting in 2004, the team's Web site indicated.
