SANDY, Utah, June 24 (UPI) -- Chris Wondolowski's header in the 84th minute Sunday broke a 1-1 tie and propelled the San Jose Earthquakes to a 2-1 decision over Real Salt Lake.

Wondolowski's goal -- his league-leading 13th of year -- came at the end of a throw-in from Justin Morrow. His toss was headed on by Alan Gordon and Wondolowski managed to redirect it past Nick Rimando into the net.

Gordon broke a scoreless tie in the 75th on a header for the Earthquakes (10-3-3), who used the three points to vault over Real Salt Lake and into first place in the Western Conference.

Javier Morales briefly tied the score for Salt Lake (10-5-2) in the 79th, scoring on a free kick from 24 yards out.
