Rain disrupts Travelers Championship

CROMWELL, Conn., June 22 (UPI) -- Defending champion Fredrik Jacobson moved one shot in front Friday during the second round at the Travelers Championship before play was halted by rain.

None of the afternoon starters could complete their day's work before the foul weather finally stopped the action.

There was a 70-minute delay early in the afternoon due to lightning in the area and the field then returned to the TPC-River Highlands course in hopes of being able to finish 36 holes. Another, more intense storm soon moved in and that forced tournament officials to stop play for good.

The second round will be concluded early Saturday, after which the cut will be made and the third round will begin.

Jacobson, playing in the morning, shot a 4-under 66 for a 9-under 131 total. Nathan Green was at 8-under with nine holes to play and Charley Hoffman was at 8-under with 12 holes left.

Blake Adams, Roland Thatcher and Stuart Appleby were tied for fourth, all of them having completed their second round with 133 totals.

Webb Simpson, who won his first major championship last week at the U.S. Open, was at 135 in a tie for 10th. He is two shots closer to the lead after his second round this week than he was at the midway point last week.

Jacobson's win here last year was his first and, thus far, only triumph on the PGA Tour. His round Friday was highlighted by an eagle at the par-5 13th.

First-round leader David Mathis slumped to a 73 that left him in a tie for 26th at 137.
