Vikings say won't trade disgruntled Harvin

EDEN PRAIRIE, Minn., June 20 (UPI) -- Minnesota Vikings General Manager Rick Spielman said Wednesday the team wants to keep receiver Percy Harvin, who has expressed unhappiness with his situation.

Harvin, Spielman said, is a cornerstone of the team, the Minneapolis Tribune reported.

"I feel confident we can work through anything that needs to be worked through," Spielman said.

"We have no interest at all of trading Percy Harvin. He's a key part of our football team. Any issues that are out there, or reported, we always handle those things internally."

Harvin wasn't specific about his gripes but said Tuesday he was unhappy with the team. He has two years left on his five-year, $12 million rookie contract.

Spielman said he had spoken to Harvin's agent, Joel Segal, but hadn't yet talked to the receiver though Coach Leslie Frazier had. Spielman didn't shed any additional light on what's sticking in Harvin's craw.

The St. Paul Pioneer Press reported two sources it described as having direct knowledge of the situation said a contract extension is not the sole reason for Harvin's unhappiness. His playing time, the way he's employed in the Vikings' offense and Minnesota's 3-13 record, also could be factors, the newspaper said.

Harvin, who will be paid a base salary $915,000 this year, was at the team's minicamp Wednesday, but left without talking to reporters.
