Hantuchova wins at AEGON International

EASTBOURNE, England, June 18 (UPI) -- No. 8-seeded Daniela Hantuchova posted a solid first-round win Monday at the AEGON International tennis tournament in England.

Hantuchova stopped local favorite Anne Keothavong 6-2, 6-3. She had four breaks in eight receiving games and won more than half of the points off Keothavong's serve (23-22).

She advanced to a second-round meeting with Tamira Paszek, who defeated Marina Erakovic 7-5, 6-1. Paszek saved all seven break points she faced. She posted breaks in four of Erakovic's last five games serving.

Also Monday, Aleksandra Wozniak beat Galina Voskoboeva 6-3, 4-6, 7-6 (7-5) and Chanelle Scheepers had eight breaks in a 6-1, 4-6, 6-1 win over Mona Barthel.

The $637,000 tournament is the final grass-court tune-up before the Wimbledon Championships begin June 26. Five Top 10-ranked players, including top-seeded Agnieszka Radwanska and defending champion Marion Bartoli, are in the AEGON International field.
