NEW YORK, June 16 (UPI) -- Homer Bailey stifled the Mets over eight innings and Jay Bruce socked a three-run homer Saturday, staking Cincinnati to a 4-1 victory over New York.

Bailey (5-4) yielded only one run on six hits and a walk, striking out three as the National League Central-leading Reds won their fifth straight.

The right-hander allowed a first-inning RBI double to David Wright but then clamped down to toss seven straight scoreless frames.

Aroldis Chapman racked up his eighth save in the ninth as Cincinnati clinched its three-game series.

Bruce pounded his three-run shot in the first and Ryan Ludwick added an RBI to provide the Reds' offense.

Jonathon Niese (4-3) was tagged for all four runs on six hits in a seven-inning effort for New York.
