LOS ANGELES, June 11 (UPI) -- Jeff Carter and Trevor Lewis each scored twice Monday, boosting Los Angeles to a 6-1 rout of New Jersey and the first NHL championship in Kings history.

Carter's power-play tally 12:45 into the first period came during a stunning outburst in which Dustin Brown and Lewis also scored man-advantage goals within a 4-minute span.

Brown added pair of assists and Matt Greene scored a goal for the eighth-seeded Kings, who completed an improbable post-season run through the Western Conference and defeated New Jersey 4-games-to-2 in the Stanley Cup Final.

Jonathan Quick turned aside 17-of-18 shots to log the victory and was named winner of the Conn Smythe Award as the most valuable player in the 2011-12 playoffs.

The Kings, who went up 3-0 in the finals and then suffered two consecutive losses, went 16-4 in the post-season en route to the Stanley Cup -- the first in the franchise's 45-year history.

Adam Henrique scored and Martin Brodeur made 19 saves for the Devils, who fell short in their bid for a fourth Stanley Cup and first since 2002-03.
