OAKLAND, Calif., June 7 (UPI) -- Bartolo Colon shut down Texas on five hits over eight innings Wednesday to bring the Oakland Athletics a 2-0 win over the Rangers.
It was the first time the Rangers had been shut out this season.
Colon (5-6) allowed only one Texas runner to reach third base, that coming when the Rangers loaded the bases in the second with one away. Mitch Moreland then grounded into a double play to end the threat.
Colon combined with closer Brian Fuentes to retire the last 14 batters in a row. Fuentes collected his fifth save.
Brandon Inge singled in a run in the second and Yoenis Cespedes had an RBI base hit in the fourth.
Colby Lewis (4-5) also went eight innings in taking the loss. He gave up six hits and did not walk a batter.
