STOCKHOLM, Sweden, June 6 (UPI) -- Magnus Carlsson shot a 7-under-par 65 Wednesday and owns a 2-stroke lead after the first round of the European Tour's Nordea Masters in Sweden.

Carlsson had eight birdies and a bogey at No. 18 in building his lead. Four players -- Matthew Baldwin, Richard Bland, Ignacio Garrido and Peter Hanson -- are tied for second at 5-under.

Eight other players finished Wednesday's play at 4-under 68 and nine more are 3-under.

Carlsson had birdies on two of his first three holes but really took off beginning at the par-3 seventh hole. A birdie there started a spurt in which Carlsson had five birdies in a six-hole span. He added a birdie at the 16th before the closing bogey.

Bland had a bogey, two birdies and a double bogey in his first four holes but was bogey free the rest of the way en route to his 67 while Ignacio had a pair of bogeys against seven birdies. Baldwin and Hanson each had six birdies and a bogey Wednesday.
