LOS ANGELES, May 31 (UPI) -- Milwaukee took the lead for good on a two-run single by Carlos Gomez in the fourth inning Wednesday on its way to a 6-3 win over the Los Angeles Dodgers.

The key single from Gomez gave the Brewers a 2-1 lead and they added three runs in the sixth on a squeeze bunt from Martin Maldonado and RBI base hits by starting pitcher Yovani Gallardo and Norichika Aoki.

Gallardo (4-4) battled through six innings to get the win, giving up three runs on eight hits while striking out eight. John Axford walked one and struck out two in the ninth for his 10th save.

Clayton Kershaw (4-3) surrendered five runs on eight hits with five walks in the loss. He fanned seven.

Matt Kemp, who had returned from the disabled list for Tuesday's game, left Wednesday's game after aggravating his left hamstring strain. Kemp -- who broke a bat over his knee in the dugout as he headed for the locker room -- is to have an MRI Thursday.
