DENVER, May 31 (UPI) -- Carlos Gonzalez hit three homers in a game for the first time in his career Wednesday in boosting the Colorado Rockies to a 13-5 blasting of Houston.
Michael Cuddyer hit a grand slam homer for the Rockies in the first inning, but Houston rallied to tie it at 5-5 through three innings.
Gonzalez then hit a solo shot in the fifth, a two-run homer in the sixth and another solo blast in the eighth. He ran his home run total for the year to 13.
Dexter Fowler also hit a three-run homer for Colorado during its six-run sixth.
The long-ball explosion brought the Rockies their third straight victory.
Christian Friedrich (3-1) got the win even though he gave up 11 hits and five runs in six innings.
Colorado roughed up Lucas Harrell (4-4) for nine runs in five-plus innings.
