Rodman sentenced to community service

NEWPORT BEACH, Calif., May 30 (UPI) -- Former NBA star Dennis Rodman must serve 104 hours of community service for failing to pay child support, a California judge has ruled.

The ex-Chicago Bulls all-star was also placed on three years of informal probation by an Orange County court Tuesday, the Los Angeles Times reported.

Rodman, 51, who won three NBA championships with the Bulls in the late 1990s, was told by court officials to pay current child and spousal support and was admonished for owing "hundreds of thousands of dollars in additional back child support," the report said.

Rodman, who lives in Newport Beach, Calif., is broke, his financial adviser told the newspaper.

"In all honesty, Dennis, although a very sweet person, is an alcoholic," Peggy Williams said. "His sickness impacts his ability to get work."

The ex-player's third wife, Michelle Rodman, is owed $860,376, the court determined.
