Reports: Rangers sign Oswalt to deal

ARLINGTON, Texas, May 29 (UPI) -- The Texas Rangers have signed veteran free-agent pitcher Roy Oswalt to a contract, multiple reports indicated Tuesday.

Oswalt, a three-time all-star who last pitched for the Philadelphia Phillies last season, has finalized a one-year deal with the defending American League champions, The Dallas Morning News reported.

ESPN, citing unnamed sources, said the right-hander will earn $4 million plus incentives if he is called up to the major-league squad by July 1.

Oswalt, 34, compiled a 9-10 record with a 3.69 ERA in 23 starts last season for the Phillies while battling back inflammation.

The Mississippi native sat out spring training this season, aiming instead to sign a mid-season contract. He has compiled a 159-93 record with a 3.21 ERA in 339 career appearances. All but 13 of them came with Houston (2001-10).
