MLB: Detroit 6, Minnesota 3

MINNEAPOLIS, May 26 (UPI) -- Andy Dirks and Miguel Cabrera each went 2-for-4 with two RBI Saturday and the Detroit Tigers spanked Minnesota 6-3 in a rain-delayed contest.

Dirks' two-run double highlighted a four-run fifth inning, Cabrera added a pair of run-scoring singles and Prince Fielder went 4-for-4 with an RBI for the Tigers, who waited through two rain delays to clinch their three-game series.

Max Scherzer (4-3) earned the victory, tossing 5 1/3 innings, during which he yielded three runs on six hits. The right-hander didn't walk a batter and struck out nine.

Octavio Dotel and Joaquin Benoit combined for 2 2/3 scoreless relief frames and Jose Valverde notched his eighth save for Detroit.

Twins starter Carl Pavano (2-4) was roughed up for six runs on 10 hits over 4 1/3 innings.

Justin Morneau and Denard Span each homered for Minnesota, which dropped its fourth straight.
