ARLINGTON, Texas, May 25 (UPI) -- Nelson Cruz brought Texas out of a collective batting slump by driving in eight runs Friday while sending the Rangers to a 14-3 bashing of Toronto.

Cruz had a grand slam homer to finish off his big night.

It was the sixth time this season the Rangers had reached double digits in runs, but they had scored more than five just once over the last two weeks.

Texas banged out 18 hits against five Toronto pitchers and got the game going with a six-run first.

Cruz had a three-run double in the opening inning, singled in a run in the sixth and then sent his grand slam into the upper deck in right field in the seventh.

Josh Hamilton and Yorvit Torrealba added solo homers for the Rangers. It was Hamilton's 19th homer of the season.

Derek Holland (4-3) coasted to the win, giving up two runs on five hits in 7 1/3 innings. He struck out nine.

Toronto starter Brandon Morrow retired only two batters before being lifted in the first. Texas roughed him up for six runs on five hits and three walks.
