Schiavone advances at Strasbourg

STRASBOURG, France, May 22 (UPI) -- Francesca Schiavone advanced to the second round of the Strasbourg International tennis event Tuesday, dispatching Romanian Alexandra Cadantu.

The former French Open champion breezed past her opponent 6-1, 6-2, and goes on to face Croatian qualifier Mirjana Lucic.

Three-time Strasbourg titlist Anabel Medina Garrigues completed a rain-delayed 7-5, 4-6, 6-1 victory over Georgian Anna Tatishvili for a first-round win, and will face Taiwan's Su-Wei Hsieh.

Other Day 2 winners included American Sloane Stephens, Russian qualifier Alexandra Panova, Japan's Ayumi Morita and Israeli Shahar Peer.

French wild cards Alize Cornet and Virginie Razzano, Hungarian Timea Babos, Swede Johanna Larsson and Czech Lucie Hradecka also logged victories Tuesday.
