MLB: Tampa Bay 7, Toronto 1

TORONTO, May 14 (UPI) -- Cesar Ramos and four other relievers combined for eight innings of one-run ball after starter Jeff Niemann was hurt Monday, helping Tampa Bay beat Toronto 7-1.

Niemann had to leave the game after one inning when he was hit on the right ankle by an Adam Lind comebacker. Subsequent x-rays revealed a small fracture in his right fibula.

That forced an emergency appearance by Ramos (1-0), who earned his first major league victory with three innings, during which he allowed one run on two hits while overcoming three walks.

Wade Davis, J.P. Howell, Burke Badenhop and Jake McGee combined for five shutout relief frames as the Rays took the first of a two-game set Rogers Center.

Luke Scott and Sean Rodriguez each drove in two runs during a six-run fifth inning that was aided by Lind's error at first base.

Toronto's Brandon Morrow (4-2) absorbed the loss after yielding six runs (five unearned) on four hits over five innings.
