OAKLAND, Calif., May 13 (UPI) -- Justin Verlander limited the Athletics to two hits over seven innings Sunday and the Detroit Tigers edged Oakland 3-1.

Verlander (4-1) notched his sixth straight start without a loss, yielding only a fourth-inning single to Josh Reddick and a Seth Smith solo homer in the fifth.

The Tigers' ace surrendered one walk and struck out eight while lowering his ERA to 2.47 as Detroit earned a split of its four-game series at Oakland.

Austin Jackson put the Tigers ahead to stay with a bases-loaded walk in the sixth while Miguel Cabrera drove in Detroit's other two runs, going 3-for-5.

Oakland's Jarrod Parker (1-1) absorbed the loss, surrendering two runs on six hits and four walks over 5 2/3 innings. He struck out five.
