CINCINNATI, May 13 (UPI) -- Joey Votto hit three homers, including a game-winning grand slam in the bottom of the ninth inning Sunday in Cincinnati's 9-6 comeback win over Washington.
Votto also belted solo shots in the first and fourth innings. He added a double for six RBI and 14 total bases as the Reds rallied from a 6-3 deficit in the final two innings.
The game, which was delayed 3 1/2 hours by rain, was played in wet, misty conditions that played a role in the eighth as Cincinnati cut the deficit to 6-5.
Votto and Drew Stubbs both scored when Nationals right fielder Bryce Harper lost Jay Bruce's deep fly in the twilight.
Then in the ninth, Nats closer Henry Rodriguez (1-3) issued a pair of two-out walks to load the bases and Votto blasted a pitch off the top of the right-field wall for the walk-off grand slam.
The rally made a winner of Sean Marshall (1-2), who pitched a scoreless top of the ninth as the Reds avoided a three-game sweep.
Danny Espinoza drove in two runs for Washington, which lost despite banging out 16 hits.
The Nationals fell into a first-place tie with Atlanta atop the National League East.
