MADRID, May 11 (UPI) -- Janko Tipsarevic pulled off the second huge upset in as many days at the Madrid Open Friday, downing world No. 1 Novak Djokovic in the quarterfinals.

Tipsarevic ousted Djokovic 7-6 (7-2), 6-3 to set up a semifinal meeting with Roger Federer. Djokovic failed to convert any of his seven break opportunities and lost for the second time in six matches against Tipsarevic.

Second-seeded Rafael Nadal was defeated Thursday by Fernando Verdasco.

Federer reached the semifinals with a 6-4, 6-4 victory over David Ferrer. Those two have met 13 times and Ferrer has never won.

The other semifinal will send Tomas Berdych against Juan Martin del Potro. Berdych knocked off Verdasco 6-1, 6-2 and del Potro was a 6-3, 6-4 winner over Alexandr Dolgopolov.
