Another NFL concussion lawsuit filed

PHILADELPHIA, N.J., May 10 (UPI) -- A law firm has filed suit in Pennsylvania on behalf of 25 former National Football League players, saying the league did nothing to prevent brain injuries.

Brad Culpepper, an offensive tackle who played for the Minnesota Vikings, Tampa Bay Buccaneers and Chicago Bears between 1992 and 2000, is the lead plaintiff, the Tampa Bay Times reported. Culpepper is now a personal injury lawyer in Tampa.

The NFL now faces about 70 lawsuits involving about 1,800 former players charging it failed to alert players to the danger of brain injury from concussion and head-to-head contact. The Locks Law Firm, which has offices in Philadelphia, New York and Cherry Hill, N.J., filed papers in U.S. District Court Monday.

Culpepper said he does not know if he would have played differently had he had full information. But he said that does not excuse the NFL's failures.

"There were no warnings," he said. "It wasn't like they sat a player down and said, 'Look, if you get a concussion or you get numerous concussions, this could scramble your brain for good.'"
