KANSAS CITY, Mo., May 9 (UPI) -- Kansas City starter Jonathan Sanchez went on the 15-day disabled list Wednesday.

The 29-year-old left-hander has been hampered by left biceps tendinitis in his first season with the Royals. He is 1-2 with a 6.75 earned run average in six starts.

The Royals also recalled promising second baseman Johnny Giavotella from Triple-A Omaha. Giavotella batted .247 with two home runs and 21 runs batted in over 46 games in his first stint in the majors last season.
