KANSAS CITY, Mo., May 9 (UPI) -- Alcides Escobar drove in the go-ahead run in the fourth inning Wednesday and the Kansas City Royals held on to edge Boston 4-3.

Kansas City took the final two outings of the three-game series. Boston has lost seven of its last eight.

A misplayed fly ball by center fielder Marlon Byrd led to three unearned runs for the Royals in the first, but Boston tied it in the third on a three-run double by Adrian Gonzalez.

The eventual winning run came when Irving Falu doubled to lead off the fourth against Jon Lester (1-3), advanced to third on a sacrifice by Chris Getz and scored on Escobar's double to center.

Bruce Chen (1-4) gave up the three runs on seven hits over 6 2/3 to get the victory.

Jonathan Broxton allowed runners to reach second and third with one out in the ninth, but he retired Ryan Sweeney on a fly ball to shallow left and Mike Aviles on a grounder to short. It was Broxton's seventh save.
