Worcester, Mass., District Attorney Joseph Early Jr. said Beane, 59, died at a Southbridge, Mass., hospital following an accident in Sturbridge, Mass., The Boston Globe reported.
Early said a preliminary investigation indicated Beane was driving a sport utility vehicle that crashed shortly after noon. The vehicle appeared to have crossed the center line, left the road, then hit a tree and a wall.
Golfers playing at a nearby course called police to the scene.
Police said Beane was alone in his vehicle and no other vehicles were involved.
Beane was hired to announce at Fenway -- home of the Boston Red Sox -- in 2003 after a career as a Boston radio announcer, including a stint at WBZ-AM, the Globe reported.
