MILWAUKEE, May 7 (UPI) -- Milwaukee Brewers shortstop Alex Gonzalez has a torn ligament in his right knee, a medical examination revealed Monday.

A magnetic resonance scan showed a torn anterior cruciate ligament in the knee, the team said.

The shortstop was injured Saturday during Milwaukee's 5-2 loss to San Francisco when he slid into second base. He was carried of the field with the help of Brewers' Manager Ron Roenicke.

A 14-year veteran, Gonzalez has compiled a .259 average with four home runs, 15 RBI and eight runs scored through 24 games this season.
