DETROIT, May 6 (UPI) --
Rick Porcello and four Detroit relievers combined to shut down the White Sox on five hits Sunday, handing the Tigers a 3-1 victory over Chicago.
Porcello (3-2) yielded one run on four hits in a 6 1/3-inning stint, turning in his second straight strong start following a rough start to the season. The right-hander walked two and struck out five.
Octavio Dotel, Phil Coke and Joaquin Benoit teamed up to hurl 1 2/3 scoreless relief frames and Jose Valverde picked up his fifth save despite allowing a walk and a single in the ninth.
Austin Jackson, Andy Dirks and Prince Fielder each knocked solo homers for the Tigers, who took the rubber match of a three-game series at Comerica Park.
Chicago starter Dylan Axelrod (0-1) was touched for a pair of runs on six hits over 4 1/3 innings.
Adam Dunn homered for the only White Sox run.
