Davydenko, Anderson win in Madrid opener

MADRID, May 6 (UPI) -- Nikolay Davydenko and Kevin Anderson kicked off the Madrid Open with first-round victories Sunday in the event's opening day.

Russia's Davydenko got past Ivo Karlovic of Croatia 7-6 (7-4), 6-3 to advance to the second round.

South African Anderson, meanwhile, topped Russia's Alex Bogomolov Jr. 6-3, 6-2 in an 80-minute match at The Magic Box.
