LOUISVILLE, Ky., May 5 (UPI) -- The big-hats and mint juleps crowd made Union Rags the pre-race favorite in Saturday's Kentucky Derby at Churchill Downs.

The descendant of Northern Dancer came to Kentucky with a Florida Derby trophy and second-place Breeders Cup finish in its saddlebags and was a 9-to-2 favorite in the field of 20 in early afternoon action at the windows.

Bodemeister was a 7-1 favorite in the fluid wagering situation followed by Gemologist at 9-1. Dullahan and Take Charge Indy were 10-1.

The weather in Kentucky was on the sultry side as the undercard races continued in the hours leading up to the race, which is the first leg of the Triple Crown.
