
DETROIT, May 5 (UPI) -- Adam Dunn bashed a long go-ahead homer in the ninth inning Saturday for the Chicago White Sox rallied for a 3-2 decision over Detroit.
Trailing 2-1 heading into their final at-bat, the White Sox got a lead-off single from Alejandro De Aza and one out later Dunn unloaded a 422-foot blast to right off Tigers closer Jose Valverde (2-1).
The clout made a winner of rookie Nate Jones (1-0), who logged his first major league victory with a scoreless eighth.
Hector Santiago allowed a hit and walk in the bottom of the ninth before Addison Reed came in and collected the initial save of his big-league career by striking out Austin Jackson to end the game.
Chisox starter Gavin Floyd got a no-decision after yielding two runs on seven hits over seven innings.
Paul Konerko also homered for the White Sox, who snapped a three-game skid.
Andy Dirks went 2-for-4 with an RBI single for the Tigers.
