Errani keeps clay streak going

BUDAPEST, Hungary, May 3 (UPI) -- Sara Errani ran her clay-court winning streak to 13 matches with a win Thursday at the Budapest Grand Prix tennis tournament in Hungary.

Errani, the No. 1 seed in Budapest, posted wins in Acapulco and Barcelona in her two most recent tournaments on clay courts. She moved into the semifinals at Budapest with a 6-4, 6-0 win Thursday over Alberta Brianti. Errani also beat Brianti in straight sets in the quarterfinals in Acapulco.

This time Errani won more points (33-29) off Brianti's serve than Brianti and ended up with five breaks in eight receiving games.

No. 5-seeded Marina Erakovic stopped Barbora Zahlavova Strycova 6-2, 1-6, 6-4. Four of her five dropped service games came in the second set.

Elena Vesnina defeated sixth-seeded Petra Martic 6-3, 6-2. Vesnina lost just 15 points over nine games on serve.

The fourth quarterfinal saw Anna Tatishvili survive a 2 1/2-hour, 5-7, 7-6 (7-4), 6-4 match against and Aleksandra Wozniak. Tatishvili lost all nine of the break points she saw but also had nine breaks against Wozniak, including the final game of the match.

Errani will play Tatishvili in the semifinals. Errani won their only previous meeting. Erakovic is 2-1 in her career against Vesnina. They split two matches in 2011.
