BELGRADE, Serbia, May 3 (UPI) -- No. 1-seed Pablo Andujar rallied for a three-set victory Thursday in a second-round match at the Serbia Open tennis tournament.
Andujar edged into the quarterfinals with a 4-6, 7-5, 6-2 win over Filippo Volandri in a match that took nearly 2 1/2 hours. Neither player was able to establish control with the serve game as Andujar won 56 percent on serve and Volandri 54 percent.
Andujar was a little more solid in the final set, saving all five of the break points he faced and converted both of his chances against Volandri.
Lukas Rosol advanced to a quarterfinal match against Andujar with a 7-6 (7-4), 6-3 win over Victor Hanescu. The difference in the second set was the lone break in the match when Rosol cashed in his only break opportunity of the set.
Benoit Paire also claimed a long match win, getting past Guillermo Garcia-Lopez 4-6, 7-5, 7-5. Both players won 108 points on the day but the late breaks by Paire in the last two sets put him in the quarterfinals.
His opponent isn't known, however, as rain caused the suspension of a match between third-seeded Jarkko Nieminen and Antonio Veic. Nieminen was up 5-3 and serving at 40-15 when play stopped.
Quarterfinals set up with results from Wednesday have No. 2-seeded Andreas Seppi taking on eighth-seeded Gilles Muller and fourth-seeded Davis Nalbandian playing Joao Souza.
