MLB: Texas 7, Tampa Bay 2

ARLINGTON, Texas, April 29 (UPI) -- Colby Lewis pitched six effective innings and Adrian Beltre bashed a three-run homer Saturday in the Texas Rangers' 7-2 victory over Tampa Bay.

Lewis (3-0) handcuffed the Rays on one run over six innings, surrendering only three hits and three walks while striking out five.

The right-hander tossed 56 of his 96 pitches for strikes and lowered his ERA to 1.93 with the victory, the 16th in 21 games for the American League West-leading Rangers.

Beltre's blast in the seventh inning capped the scoring for Texas, which also got two hits and two RBI from Josh Hamilton.

Jeff Niemann (1-3) was saddled with the loss despite giving up just two earned runs on five hits over 5 2/3 frames for Tampa Bay, which won Friday's series opener 8-4.

Matt Joyce smacked a solo homer for the Rays.
