Bulls' Rose hurts knee, out for playoffs

April 28, 2012 at 7:41 PM   |   Comments

CHICAGO, April 28 (UPI) -- Chicago Bulls guard and reigning NBA MVP Derrick Rose will miss the rest of the post-season with a torn knee ligament, the team announced Saturday.

Rose scored 23 points to go with nine rebounds and nine assists in the Bulls' 103-91 playoff-opening win over Philadelphia Saturday.

But he had to be helped off the court with 1:10 left in the game after jump-stopping in the lane while throwing a pass. Rose crumpled to the floor and grabbed his left knee before being taken to the locker room.

He was later diagnosed with a torn anterior cruciate ligament.

"It's part of the game. There are going to be injuries," Bulls Coach Tom Thibodeau said. "A guy could get hurt in practice, a guy could get hurt in the first 5 minutes of the game. He can get hurt at the end of the game. He can get hurt any time, and you've got to deal with it."
