PHOENIX, April 25 (UPI) -- Cole Hamels tossed eight strong innings and capped a rally with a two-run single Wednesday in Philadelphia's 7-2 victory over Arizona.

Hamels (3-1) tamed the Diamondbacks on four hits, yielding a pair of runs while issuing only one walk and striking out seven en route to his third straight win.

He also helped out at the plate, driving in the final two runs of a five-run uprising in the sixth inning that broke open a close 1-1 contest and handed the Phillies the rubber match of a three-game series.

Carlos Ruiz and Placido Polanco combined to go 6-for-7 with two RBI and Hunter Pence also drove in a pair for the Phils.

D-Backs starter Trevor Cahill (1-2) surrendered four runs on six hits in a six-inning effort.
