FES, Morocco, April 25 (UPI) -- Top-seeded Anabel Medina Garrigues advanced but No. 2-seeded Svetlana Kuznetsova was injured Wednesday and is out of the WTA tournament in Morocco.

Medina Garrigues overcame four service breaks in claiming a 6-2, 6-3 second-round win over Mandy Minella. Medina Garrigues allowed Minella to hold serve just once on the day but needed those seven breaks as she lost her own serve twice in each set.

Kuznetsova took the first set 6-1 but Irina-Camelia Begu rallied to win the second set 7-6 (7-4) and was up 3-2 in the third when Kuznetsova suffered a leg injury and was unable to continue.

Two other seeded players were eliminated from the draw. Kiki Bertens survived a 7-5, 1-6, 6-3 battle with sixth-seeded Chanelle Scheepers and Mathilde Johansson ousted No. 8-seeded Shahar Peer 4-6, 6-3, 6-2.

No. 3-seeded Petra Cetkovska defeated Timea Bacsinszky 6-3, 6-2 in just more than an hour and fifth-seeded Simona Halep had six breaks in a 6-2, 7-5 win over Alexandra Cadantu.

Also Wednesday, Laura Pous-Tio beat Arantxa Rus 6-3, 7-5 and Garbine Muguruza Blanco advanced when Patricia Mayr-Achleitner retired between the first and second sets.

The quarterfinal pairings have Medina Garrigues playing Halep -- two of the three seeded players left in the draw -- and Muguruza Blanco going against Bertens. Cetkovska faced Johansson and Begu meets Pous-Tio in the other quarterfinals.
