
PHOENIX, April 24 (UPI) -- Jason Kubel went 3-for-4 with two RBI and Wade Miley tossed six shutout frames Monday, powering the Arizona Diamondbacks past Philadelphia 9-5.
Kubel smacked a run-scoring double during a four-run first inning and added a solo shot in the fourth. Justin Upton homered and drove in a pair for the Diamondbacks, who had 16 hits.
John McDonald contributed a run-scoring single among his three hits and Cody Ransom collected two RBI as Arizona cruised to a victory in the first contest of a three-game series in Phoenix.
Miley (2-0) baffled the Phillies on two hits, walking one and fanning seven to secure the victory.
Philadelphia starter Kyle Kendrick (0-1), starting in place of the injured Cliff Lee, was bombed for seven runs on 11 hits over before being yanked after three-plus innings.
Shane Victorino knocked a three-run homer for the Phils, who lost for the fifth time in seven games.
