MLS: Philadelphia 1, Chivas USA 0

CARSON, Calif., April 22 (UPI) -- Midfielder Freddy Adu scored in the 40th minute Saturday and Philadelphia held on for a 1-0 win over Chivas USA despite being two men short late.

Adu collected his first goal of the year when he back-heeled a poor clearing pass by defender James Riley into an empty net.

Goalkeeper Zac MacMath preserved the shutout for the Union (2-3-1) when he turned aside a shot from 20 yards by Goats midfielder Nick LaBrocca.

Philadelphia went down two men in the second half when Keon Daniel and Gabriel Farfan each received red cards. Farfan's hard foul on Riley triggered a melee during which Philadelphia Coach Peter Nowak was ejected for entering the pitch.

Chivas fell to 3-4-0 with the loss.
