ATLANTA, April 18 (UPI) -- Tracy McGrady scored 17 points and was one of seven Atlanta players in double figures Wednesday, sending the Hawks coasting past Detroit 116-84.
Atlanta tallied 39 points in the first 12 minutes to take a 19-point lead and Detroit was never able to make a run.
The Hawks won for the sixth time in eight outings, moving a game in front for Orlando for the No. 5 seed in the Eastern Conference.
Ivan Johnson added 16 points and 10 rebounds for the Hawks, and Joe Johnson had 13.
Atlanta scored 72 points in the first half, the most the Hawks have managed over the opening two quarters this season.
Detroit, which has lost six out of eight, got 17 points from Greg Monroe.
