Coyotes' Raffi Torres suspended indefinitely

NEW YORK, April 18 (UPI) -- The NHL suspended Phoenix forward Raffi Torres indefinitely Wednesday for his hit on Chicago's Marian Hossa in Game 3 of their playoff series.

Torres launched himself off the ice for an open-rink shoulder hit on Hossa in the first period of the Coyotes' 3-2 overtime win Tuesday.

Hossa was taken off the ice on a stretcher. He was checked out at a hospital and released Tuesday night. The Blackhawks have not provided details of his injury other than to say he suffered an "upper body blow" and tests "yielded encouraging results."

It wasn't known when he will return to play.

Torres was not penalized on the play. He will miss Game 4 Thursday.

Torres asked that a hearing planned for Wednesday be delayed until Friday in New York.

Torres was suspended two games for a similar hit against Minnesota defenseman Nate Prosser in January.
