Truex wins Sprint Cup pole in Texas

FORT WORTH, Texas, April 13 (UPI) -- Martin Truex Jr. turned in the fastest qualifying lap Friday to earn the No. 1 starting position for Saturday's Samsung Mobile 500.

Truex was clocked at 190.369 miles per hour at the 1.5-mile Texas Motor Speedway, giving him his second pole at the track.

Matt Kenseth, the defending race champion, qualified second with a lap just 0.033 of a second slower than that of Truex.

Current points leader Greg Biffle was third, followed by Mark Martin and Kasey Kahne.

The Top 10 qualifiers were rounded out by Ryan Newman, Marcos Ambrose, Brad Keselowski, Jamie McMurray and Jimmie Johnson.

Defending series champion Tony Stewart qualified 29th in a backup car. He wrecked his primary car during a practice session earlier Friday.

Biffle goes into the race with a six-point lead over Dale Earnhardt Jr., who qualified 16th.
