Texas starter Derek Holland (1-0) allowed five hits and two runs over 7 1/3 innings in collecting the win. Mike Adams, despite allowing two hits and a run in the ninth, got the save.

Mariners starter Jason Vargas (1-1) gave up the first four Rangers runs and seven hits, while striking out six, and took the loss.

Young's first home run off the season in the fifth made the score 3-0 but Seattle came back with an Alex Liddi RBI single in the sixth and a Kyle Seager home run in the seventh to get within a run.

The run-scoring hits by Kinsler and Young in the bottom of the inning pushed the lead to 5-2. Seattle had a two-out RBI double from Miguel Olivo before Adams was able to get the final out.
