NEW YORK, April 11 (UPI) -- Stephen Strasburg turned in his second straight strong outing to start the season, handcuffing the New York Mets in Washington's 4-0 victory.

Strasburg (1-0), who hurled seven innings of one-run ball against the Chicago Cubs Thursday, came back with six shutout frames against the Mets, issuing only two hits, walking three and striking out nine.

Ryan Mattheus and Sean Burnett each followed with a scoreless inning of relief and Henry Rodriguez recorded the final out in the whitewash as the Nationals took the rubber match of their three-game set at Citi Field.

Mark DeRosa, Jesus Flores and Chad Tracy provided RBI as Washington improved to 4-2 on the season.

New York starter Johan Santana (0-1) took the hard-luck loss, yielding one run on five hits in a five-inning effort.

The Mets lost for the second time in six games.
