MLB: Philadelphia 7, Miami 1

PHILADELPHIA, April 11 (UPI) -- A two-run single by Freddy Galvis finished off a five-run third inning Wednesday that propelled Philadelphia to a 7-1 victory over Miami.

The Phillies pounded out 14 hits to snap a three-game skid, while Roy Halladay (2-0) threw 109 pitches over seven innings to get the win. Philadelphia had managed just eight total runs in its first four games.

Philadelphia sent 10 men to the plate in the third inning against Josh Johnson (0-2) with Halladay making the first and last outs of the frame.

After Halladay grounded out to open the inning, Juan Pierre singled, stole second and scored on a base hit by Placido Polanco.

Polanco went to second on the throw home and then came in on a single by Jimmy Rollins, who moved to second on a throwing error by left fielder Logan Morrison. Shane Victorino's single brought home Rollins and another single from Shane Victorino moved Pence to third.

That brought up Galvis, a rookie who had just one hit in his first 13 big league at bats. His double to right delivered both Pence and Victorino.
